ARTIST STATEMENT

As an artist and designer, I am driven by a desire to explore the paradoxical truths that shape our world. I believe that art and design have the power to explore the depths and bring understanding to these complexities—and if not understanding, then peace.

Nature is a constant source of inspiration for me, and I seek to incorporate its beauty and structure into my work through careful attention to detail and a balance of color and form. I try to capture both movement and resolution in my work, using fluid lines and geometric framing.

I value collaborating with local partners and prioritize supporting my local community whenever possible. I also recognize the invaluable contributions of artists and designers around the world who have generously shared their work and processes online, and strive to do the same with my own creations.

Whether I am working on a hand-carved print, a design project, or an illustration, I am committed to using my hands and mind to create thoughtful and beautiful works of art and design.

A Selection of Works

“Growth & Change” (2023)

Will you love that I’ve grown? Will you hate that I’ve changed?

”Growth & Change” is about the relationship between the two. Growth often implies change, but change on its own isn’t always for good. We must hope that our change is for the better. There will be those who see your positive growth as negative change and miss who you once were.

The Paradox Series (2021)

This series explores paradoxical truths that many of us hold simultaneously. Left to right, top to bottom: “Strength & Sacrifice”, “Doubt & Desire”, “Love & Loss”, “Faith & Fear”. The presence of the one only makes the other more poignant. Perhaps they are not enemies after all.

“Lucky for You” (2021)

An original design printed locally, “Lucky for You” was an exploration into the medium of risograph printing. It is a satirical take on the concept of the “lucky rabbit’s foot.” It asks the question, what is the true cost of your good luck? Who had to suffer for it to reach you?

“Don’t Meet Your Heroes” (2021)

Also printed locally, “Don’t Meet Your Heroes” embraces the medium of risograph printing to create a playing card inspired design featuring a king and a devil shaking hands. The inspiration comes from the disillusionment that happens when meeting heroes. Not all of them are devils, but they’re probably not all that we hoped they’d be.
